What is a doula?

A doula is a non-medical role that aims to support families through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. This includes emotional, physical and practical support as well as signposting to useful resources and services.

What is the difference between a doula, midwife and nanny?

A doula does not provide any clinical or medical intervention unlike a midwife. A doula provides support and amplifies your voice and preferences, they are not responsible for your birth, and will not make any decisions for you regarding your care.

Doulas can provide childcare and infant care as part of their support, however they are not a childcare service. Doulas support the entire family through your journey from pregnancy to postpartum, whereas a nanny is usually hired long-term, focused on childcare tasks only.

What kind of births do you support?

I support all kinds of birth; home-birth, hospital birth and C-section (including elective). I will be by your side to ensure you feel confident in your decisions and have everything you need. Sometimes birth doesn’t go to plan - I will do everything I can to make you feel comfortable and supported through any change. Whilst I cannot control the process of your birth, I can provide boundless care.

Will you replace my birth partner?

No, unless you do not have a birth partner and request for me to assume the role of one.

I will be there to help both you and your birth partner, offering gentle guidance during labour, considering both of your needs and stepping in when your partner needs rest.

When should I book you?

The earlier the better, so we can get acquainted and prepared for your birth together. However, if you think you may have left it too late, please reach out anyway and I’ll happily discuss my availability to see if we can work together.
